Implant and Instrument Development
Spierings Orthopaedics BV combines technical expertise with modern testing facilities, offering a solution for a wide range of manufacturing services. We can produce both small and large batches of surgical implants and instruments. Spierings Orthopaedics BV is a reliable and experienced partner for the orthopaedic industry for manufacturing projects, some project examples are shown below:
Symax Total Hip System
The project consisted of designing, developing and outsourcing the manufacturing of the stem. For the instrumentation of the prosthesis, Spierings was responsible for the design, development and manufacturing of the instrumentation set. In order to get market approval, Spierings Orthopaedics also performed cadaver testing, range-of-motion simulations, fatigue testing, setting up clinical trials and the CE registration of the instrumentation set.
The Symax Total Hip System has an anatomic design. Its proximal interference fit, based on anatomical geometry analysis studies, results in a more natural proximal stress distribution and less stress shielding. The Symax stem has a reduced neck diameter, a short taper (V40) and a small CCD angle (128) to extend the range of motion. Its natural anatomy dictates progressive anteversion with increasing size. An implant size independent constant leg length is assured. The instrumentation was developed to achieve a better accuracy during preparation in combination with optimal canal filling.
Patella in place Knee Balancing (PKB) system
The design, development and manufacturing of a Patella in place Knee Balancing system for the Scorpio and Triathlon knee prosthesis. Spierings Orthopaedics B.V. was also responsible for the CE registration of the system.
The Patella in place Knee Balancing system is developed for preparing the distal femur for the femoral component of the Stryker Scorpio or Triathlon knee prosthesis, during a total knee arthroplasty. The system enables “ligament balancing” during the alignment of the cuts while keeping the patella in place and thus factoring in the patella tendon tension during the ligament balancing.
